Things to do before you die or turn thirty
I'm aware that the following will not attract sympathy from my almost entirely 30+ audience, but I'm rapidly running out of twenties. However, being 29 has so far been awesome as I've been determined to pack things in while I still have the chance, and I'm actively seeking out new opportunities and experiences (I see no reason why this shouldn't continue into the new decade though).
In brief:
1) Work. Going well for the most part. I can now stand up in front of teachers and lead an entire day's worth of professional development activities and be praised at the end for giving the most interesting training they've ever had. I'm starting a Masters in Education part time in October, with the full support of work (they're paying!) which will help me to speak even more knowledgeably about maths education issues. (Once again, shout out if you want the link to my work-related blog.)
2) Concerts. So far this year, Sam and I have seen the Divine Comedy, Air, and the Lightning Seeds. We're going to see Eels tomorrow, and we have more gigs lined up for later in the year. My friend Helen invited me to the Sunday of V festival in Chelmsford last weekend - my first ever music festival. Live music is a bigger part of my life than ever before this year.
3) Holidays. So far this year, I've been to Rome with my dad, and Edinburgh with Helen - the latter was my first trip to Scotland since I was a tiny baby. We went for the Fringe, and it was fantastic. Sam and I are hoping to go to the Netherlands for a few days later in the year, and we've also been on plenty of short weekend breaks together, most recently to Oxford.
4) Crafting. I recently finished a crochet project for a friend, and I'm knitting again as well as trying new crochet ideas. I really need to pluck up the courage to use the sewing machine a little more frequently.
5) Losing weight. Since leaving the classroom and taking a job which involves a lot more sitting down, my weight had been creeping up. In the last couple of months, I've been actively eating more fruit and veg and less crap, and trying to exercise on my dance mat or by taking long walks several times a week. It's paying off; I'd set myself a target to get down below a certain milestone and then I'll treat myself to a smartphone, and the target is now in sight.
So I'm happy, healthy, active, enjoying life to the full, well aware how lucky that makes me, and I almost wish I could start being 30 a bit sooner than next April, if it's going to be as great as my late twenties are turning out :-)

Cool. What a good year!
Great stuff! Do as much as you can before you start creaking!

You've hardly started. There's another 30 years to go before things REALLY start to hot up!
