This Summer

First of all, I'm feeling more cheerful and less stressed about all my impending dooms. Perhaps that's because I've just had a weekend where I've avoided thinking about work or moving! Still, I've managed to get all my reports written since I got back from Sam's tonight, and I'm planning to go into work early tomorrow and start sorting some things out ready for the end of term. I will probably be stressed and crotchety again by tomorrow evening though as we have a department meeting and they have a tendency to go on a bit.

Secondly, I'm trying to make some plans for the summer. The payoff for having to put up with 'orrible kids and even more 'orrible government initiatives is that I get approximately six weeks off to recover each summer. Now this summer will mostly be taken up with moving house, so I can't go properly away (I tried that once before, and co-ordinating things from abroad is not easy - I nearly ended up homeless!) but it would be nice to have a break from packing and throwing things away at some point. This is where you come in, gentle reader.
If anyone fancies visiting me in Peterborough, let me know. I realise this is unlikely, as no-one but me has stupidly large amounts of holiday.
If you know of somewhere you'd recommend for me to visit, let me know. If you can offer a cup of tea and some cake as I'm passing, even better!
If you have any great ideas of things I could do, let me know. I won't do a Simon and promise to do them all, but this is the first summer since I passed my driving test, so I'd like to do something more interesting than going to Norwich on the train and buying a secondhand book, which is all I can remember doing in previous summers where I haven't been on holiday.

Suggestions etc. in the comments, or email me.

You'd be most welcome to visit sunny Southampton and help dig over my allotment. Beer, pizza and sofa provided free of charge, and you'll get the pleasurable company of our new kitten sitting on your head whilst you try to sleep, too!
You don't get them sort of holidays at Thomas Cook.

San Diego is a bit warm this time of year and the cost of your petrol could be prohibitive but if you'd like a trip to the other side of the pond and beyond, you'd be very welcome!!
