Last Weekend
I suppose I'd better bash out a blog about last weekend before I forget. While everyone else was having the time of their lives in Oxford, I was in the much nicer city of Cambridge receiving my MA. On Friday night, I had the privilege of dining at High Table, which was magnificent fun. We had Mussel Chowder to start, then Venison, then Vanilla Bavarois. I managed to make polite conversation with those around me, and didn't do anything embarrassing. Then we left to drink port and eat stilton and talk about sophisticated intellectual things. At some point I realised I wasn't going to make it back to Sam's, so I phoned him to apologise and made arrangements to stay over in Cambridge.
On Saturday, while I nursed a slight hangover, Sam met my mum from the station and escorted her into town. We met, picked up the gown and hood I'd hired for the day, and proceeded to Lunch. Lunch was very tasty; Goujons of Plaice (posh fish fingers), Beef Stroganoff, and Blackcurrant Cheesecake. I didn't do it justice though because I was starting to feel somewhat nervous. After lunch and photos, Sam and my mum disappeared to the Senate House, and I went with my friends to be told what to do. All proceeded with startling similarity to my original graduation, although as my expectations were lower it wasn't quite such an anticlimax.
The day was Nice. It gave my mum an excuse to come to see me and dress up and take me out for a meal in the evening. It gave me an excuse to catch up with old friends in Cambridge. And it helped me to realise I've finally grown up and moved on.

The big advantage of Oxford over Cambridge is that Cambridge no longer offers league football...
