New York Photos (Part 2)

On Monday (our fourth full day) it was lovely and clear, so we decided to take the opportunity to ascend the Empire State Building in case we didn't get such good photo-taking weather later on. I can thoroughly recommend the Citypass to anyone thinking of visiting NY as it allows you to bypass the queues once you've bought it. On the way to the Empire State Building I couldn't resist taking this picture:

Next, the pick of the views from the top:

If you don't know New York, you may not realise that Broadway cuts diagonally across, making interesting shapes where it intersects with the avenues. You can see the Flatiron building in this picture, where Broadway meets Fifth Avenue, one of NY's oldest skyscrapers.

After we'd descended, and visited the Flatiron building, we headed to the Brooklyn Bridge, and walked across it. Here's a view looking back towards Manhattan from one of the lovely parks by the East River:

After exploring a little bit of Brooklyn, we headed back via the subway to Grand Central Station.

I took several photos, some of which captured the huge flag hanging from the ceiling as well as the decorated roof, but I like this one best because you can see the clock and the information desk and lots of people on their way to catch trains. Maybe next time I go to New York I'll take a day trip to one of the exciting-sounding places we saw on the departure boards.

Oooo pretty pictures. I always thought NY was built on a grid system, I didn't know Broadway was a diagonal. Or maybe I'm getting all mixed up....
