Hard-earned dosh

I decided that as I was Samless this weekend I should spend some money without any restraining influences, so yesterday morning I drove to Braintree. I parked in the big carpark at Freeport and got the free bus into town. There were a fair number of charity shops, good for a couple of CDs and some books, and a jigsaw of Lake Windermere to while away a few Bank Holiday hours. I also got a skirt in New Look, in a style I'd been looking at for a while but a colour I hadn't considered (dark blue). Eventually I found my way back to the bus stop, although I left some parts of Braintree town centre unexplored.

Back at Freeport I lunched at Burger King, lifting my head from the book I was reading only to glare at the youths who left all their paper bags on the table to blow onto the floor, when there was a bin just 10 yards away. Chuh! Young people today.
That was freaky. As I went back to edit that paragraph, I heard the words "Burger King" in the song that's playing.
Anyway, on with the shopping. I got some great new jeans from Next with a lovely belt with a flutterby on, for just £7. Bargain. And a denim skirt. And some tops from M&S. And some nice sandals from Clarks. Whittard had leaf tea on offer, so I shall have to get up 5 minutes earlier each morning and brew it properly rather than just chucking a bag in a mug. Much nicer, too.
I was very restrained, and didn't buy the suit I saw in M&S which looked perfect for work. I might go back for it next weekend.

Driving home, I listened to the start of the football coverage on 5 Live, and continued to follow what was going on all afternoon while doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen and so on. Scunthorpe managed a 3-0 win to celebrate winning the league, and it sounds like my dad, sister and niece had a great time there, seeing the trophy presented. I've almost made my mind up to get a season ticket next year; I may not make it to every game but I'm more likely to go if I know it's already paid for. I'm not sure how Sam feels about me abandoning him for a good portion of alternate weekends, but it might be my only chance to see Scunthorpe playing in the Championship (that's Division 1 to some of you, or Division 2 for the even older ones. The one below the Premiership).

On the agenda for today, a little more cleaning and tidying, maybe a trip out or a walk if the sun comes out, quite possibly some listening to music and playing computer games and reading and all the other things I don't usually have time for.

Sam has thought about the season ticket thing and is quite happy for you to do it. It will mean he occasionally has weekends on his own, and hence the readers of this blog are welcome to keep him company. In his spare time, Sam enjoys talking about himself in the third person
