Christmas is coming...

The goose may well be getting fat, but I have no knowledge of any geese. What I do know is that 1 and 2 have now been burned on the advent candle (not the advent calendar as I keep calling it. I can't burn that; Sam forgot to bring it so it's still in Ely and I won't get it until Thursday, by which time there'll be 6 chocolates to eat!), many presents have been ordered online and many more bought in shops (the bulk of it is now done! Hurrah!), tinsel has been purchased so I can put a token piece in my hair for the enforced cheer of the Staff Christmas Party on Friday, and best of all, I've made this beauty:

a big heavy fruity cake of deliciousness, with the flattest top I've ever succeeded in making (no need for butchery before the marzipan and icing stage this year!)
It will spend the next week or so being fed with brandy (as will I) until I have time to coat it in beautiful yellow marzipan, and then I will cover it with a pristine layer of perfect white icing. And then will come the best part of the whole process, cutting it and eating it. Just promise me you'll call in for tea and cake if there's still some left over in the New Year.

Why not use white marzipan?
Or better still make your own.

You feed it brandy? With a syringe, or what? No one in Canada actually makes fruitcakes. They last forever so we just pass around the ones relatives send from England, or possibly ones that were brought over from England with the early settlers.

I prick its bottom and trickle brandy into it off a spoon, and let it permeate through the cake. Then I lick the spoon :-)
