Half Term
I have had rather a busy week. On Friday night, I went to Tom's for a delicious dinner, and we stayed over to allow me to extensively sample the wine. Despite the quantities imbibed, I still managed to wake up at a reasonable hour to head north to Lincolnshire. Saturday was spent with my dad and his new girlfriend. We had a really nice Chinese meal in Grantham, and then watched the rugby together in the evening.
Another early start on Sunday to head up to York to visit Alistair. It was great to see where he is, so I can picture it when I'm chatting to him on msn. I'm so proud that he's growing up, and he seems to be looking after himself reasonably well.
Monday morning I had a shocking migraine which persisted through to lunchtime but retreated just in time to enjoy a lovely Italian meal in the restaurant we used to frequent in Stamford. From there we went back to Sam's via Peterborough, and drove past my old house to see if it was still there.
On Tuesday I headed back to Dunmow and did not a lot. Yesterday, one of my colleagues came over to see the flat as she had missed the housewarming, and we went out for a meal (yet another Italian, yummy pizza this time).
Today I drove over to meet my mum and visit my Grandad in hospital. I'm glad I went, but even though I'd tried to prepare myself it was a shock to see how old he looked. Afterwards, I suggested to my mum that we should drive to Tesco and have a coffee in the cafe there just to relax and chat somewhere other than the hospital. We had a nice time reminiscing about the long letters he used to send to my sister and me, where he'd repeat himself over and over again, rather like he did while we talked to him this afternoon.
Sam's skiving off work tomorrow to spend an extra day with me. We've not decided what to do with it yet; it rather depends on the weather. We were hoping to find some autumnal trees to walk under, and maybe do a couple of caches, but if it's drizzly and horrible I don't think we'll bother. Then back to work on Monday, and no more time off until Christmas. Us teachers work damn hard, you know!
